After another impressive performance at the Tour de France last month, Colorado native Tejay Van Garderen returned to the US to capture one of the biggest titles his home country has to offer. The 26-year-old won the seven-day USA Pro Challenge, dubbed “America’s Race,” for the second year in a row. He topped nearest rival Tom Danielson by a 1 minute, 32-second margin in the overall standings. This was the largest ever margin of victory in the race’s history. Van Garderen held the lead for the last five days of the race.
It was a clean sweep for USA Volleyball in front of their home crowd during the Long Beach, California stop on the World Series of Volleyball tour. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh Jennings and partner and Olympic silver medalist April Ross won for the women as fellow Olympic gold medalist Phil Dalhausser and partner Sean Rosenthal won the men’s title.
Italian National Champion Vincenzo Nibali won his first Tour de France title on Sunday by a mind-blowing 7 minute, 37 second margin after a dominant three-week performance from the Grande Depart in England all the way to the Champs Elysees in Paris. This was 29-year-old Nibali’s first career Tour de France championship.
